Mouka harps on quality sleep at 2014 World Sleep Day as it launches its 'Sleep Well Nigeria' Campaign
Mouka Limited has emphasized the benefits of healthy sleep at an event to mark the 2014 World Sleep Day
in Lagos, Nigeria.
Enlightening the public on the
benefits of sleep on live radio interviews which was streamed live on Twitter
(@Mouka_Lifestyle), initiated by Mouka as part of activities to mark the event,
Njideka Okubadejo, an associate professor at the College of Medicine, the
University of Lagos, said “people should focus on sleep apnea, an obstructive
condition of the upper respiratory tract which reduces the quality of sleep,
diminishes the amount of oxygen in blood and puts a heavy burden on heart.”
Prof Okubadejo pointed out that a
restful sleep, leads to a healthy life. “For every one hour of sleep
you lose, you need one day to recover, so thinking you can pick up sleep later
in the week may leave you more deprived than you think”
Encouraging Nigerians to get quality
sleep, the Managing Director, Mouka Limited, Peju Adebajo, said
“we are not just part of this year’s celebration, it has become our culture. We
are most delighted to educate Nigerians on the best way to lead lives and make
the best of it. We chose therefore to enlighten the public during our various
live radio interviews on taking good sleep to enhance chances of long life. She
also stressed the fact that every Nigeria deserves to sleep well. ”
She harped that “being well rested
can make one more alert , while lack of sleep can leave you feeling lethargic
and too tired to function properly. Studies have shown that lack of sleep for
just a few days disrupts hormone and metabolism levels, resulting in increased
appetite and calorie intake.”
According to Okubadejo “good, restorative
sleep is continuous and uninterrupted, deep, and of adequate length. If you
achieve all of these, you should feel rested and alert throughout the day.”
Mrs Adebajo also announced the launch
of Mouka’s SleepWell Nigeria Campaign, a social enlightenment series aimed to
provide life-saving and useful information on sleep to Nigerians. The campaign
has commenced with weekly articles from Professor Okubadejo, which are available
on the Mouka facebook Page (facebook/MoukaLifestyle) and website , www.mouka.com.
The maiden edition of World Sleep Day
in Nigeria, tagged ‘Sleep Well, Grow Healthy’ was organized by Mouka Limited in
2011. Over the years, Mouka Limited has remained constant at delivering quality
